As part of World Space Week, Planetarium Noosphere hosted “Space Shots: Science vs. Cinema” on October 10. Both on-site guests and online viewers joined the conversation about how realistic space-themed movies really are.
This friendly duel between science and cinema — organized by Association Noosphere and Planetarium Noosphere in partnership with Universe Space Tech — has become a beloved October tradition. This year’s theme was “When Worlds Collide.” Participants watched films centered around interstellar wars, planetary clashes, alien invasions, and other grand cosmic conflicts. The dome lit up with classics like Star Wars, Starship Troopers, Independence Day, and more.

To help separate scientific reality from Hollywood fantasy, several experts were on hand:
- Serhii Alekseyenko, Doctor of Technical Sciences and professor at Dnipro Polytechnic’s Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science;
- Vladyslav Taran, specialist in rocket and space technologies;
- Yehor Tur, Senior Space Guide at Planetarium Noosphere;
- Liudmyla Marchenko, an astronomer and science communicator with more than 50 years of experience.

Nearly 70 guests attended the event in person at Planetarium Noosphere, and another 30 watched online. Those who joined on-site could also take part in a themed quiz about space and cinema — and win small prizes for their knowledge.
