A team of young engineers from Dnipro took on an orbital rescue mission this fall. On October 17, the VEX RoboWeek STEM robotics course took place — an annual event traditionally hosted by NGO “Association Noosphere”.

VEX RoboWeek is a yearly hands-on program featuring VEX robotics workshops and friendly competitions where participants can apply what they’ve learned. This year’s theme was “Mission Starship.” Under the guidance of Tetiana Kovaliova, Noosphere’s VEX Events ambassador, students explored VEX GO kits and built their own robot heroes. With them, the teens practiced basic commands and tasks before heading into their space-themed challenge.

A total of 34 kids aged 10 to 14 took part, with boys and girls competing separately. Their mission: perform an emergency evacuation flight, power up their robot, navigate obstacles, deliver fuel tanks to a starship, and rescue a stranded crew.

All teams completed their tasks successfully. Interestingly, the youngest group of girls took first place with a wide lead, while the boys’ scores were so close that the competition came down to just a few points.

Every participant received certificates and gifts from Noosphere — along with new skills and a bunch of new friends.
