Planetarium Noosphere — a cutting-edge science and education hub in Dnipro founded by entrepreneur and philanthropist Max Polyakov — has officially been recognized as one of the best planetariums in the world. The International Planetarium Society (IPS), the most prestigious global association dedicated to astronomy outreach and education, included Planetarium Noosphere in its special anniversary publication “100 Years of Planetaria,” celebrating a century of planetariums around the world.
Out of more than 4,500 active planetariums worldwide, Noosphere was the only one from Ukraine to make the list.
“A planetarium is more than just a dome with stars projected on it — it’s an entire ecosystem of scientific heritage: projectors, armillary spheres, unique engineering solutions, and the legacy of generations. These elements reflect the changing priorities of science, education, and culture. They’re living proof of how humanity has come to understand the cosmos and its place within it,” said Yuliia Prybytkova, Executive Director of the NGO “Aerospace Museum Center for Youth Culture and Education” (Planetarium Noosphere).
“We are proud to see Planetarium Noosphere featured in this global publication as a space that unites innovation, science communication, and a strong social mission. It’s a great honor to be recognized among institutions that preserve the past while helping shape the future.”
The book was compiled by an international team of authors including Liba Taub, Pedro M. P. Raposo, Katie Boyce-Jacino, Mike Smail, and Matthew McMahon. They’ve created a mosaic of personal stories, places, and one-of-a-kind experiences from around the globe that capture the beauty and depth of planetarium culture.

A New Era of Planetarium Noosphere
After a major transformation, Planetarium Noosphere reopened in January 2021 as a modern STEAM space for discovery, research, and creativity. Today, it features the most advanced equipment of any planetarium in Ukraine, blending science, technology, innovation, and creativity in a format that captivates both kids and adults.
In just a few short years, it has become not only a center of science popularization but also a vibrant cultural landmark. Its one-of-a-kind exhibition zones have become a signature feature and a major draw for visitors from across Ukraine.
In 2023, the planetarium launched Ukraine’s only Mars-themed zone, where visitors can walk on a simulated Martian surface, explore its landscapes, learn about the Red Planet and its moons, and snap unforgettable photos. A highlight of the exhibit is a life-size astronaut suit where guests can imagine themselves as Mars pioneers. The space also includes a Mars rover model and an interactive concept of a future colony.
In 2024, a new Moon Zone was unveiled — another first for Ukraine. Visitors can explore crater-filled lunar plains, interact with the largest Moon globe in the country, and learn what scientists are searching for on the Moon and how it can help humanity prepare for missions to other planets. A selenography quest in the form of an interactive game adds to the experience.
Updated exhibits, interactive elements, rotating scientific displays, and gamified features have turned every visit into a thrilling learning adventure. Guests can test gravity on different celestial bodies, create terrain for imaginary planets using a terraforming simulator, take guided tours, and watch stunning 4K full-dome films in the Star Hall. Planetarium Noosphere has become a place where science sparks imagination, expands horizons, and creates lasting memories.

A Library of 40+ Interactive Shows — and Counting
With over 40 programs currently available, Planetarium Noosphere offers something for every age group — from educational fun for kids (ages 4+) to deep-dive experiences for teens and adults (8+, 12+, 16+). Each show combines entertainment with foundational knowledge in astronomy and natural sciences, answering the big questions about our universe in engaging and accessible ways.
One of Planetarium Noosphere’s proudest achievements is the launch of its own video production studio in 2023 — the first of its kind in Ukraine. The studio creates full-dome films, animated content, and immersive visual experiences for music and themed events.
These films explore everything from planetary exploration and sustainability to preserving Ukrainian cultural heritage. Each one is designed to spark curiosity, promote science, and highlight environmental and cultural challenges.
So far, Noosphere has released nine full-dome films, each offering a fresh perspective on space:
- Star Cradle: From Atoms to Life
- The Universe Through Hubble’s Eyes
- Cosmic Cruise
- Space Weekend: A New Home
- Beyond the Horizon: The Great Cosmic Cleanup
- Our Cosmic Address
- Ukrainian Space
- Stars: A Glimpse Into Infinity
- Guided by the Leading Star
These films have represented Ukraine at major international events, including the Jena FullDome Festival (Germany), Fulldome Festival Brno (Czech Republic), Macon Film Festival (USA), and Astrofilm (Slovakia). Our Cosmic Address and Ukrainian Space drew special attention for their innovative approach to science and cultural storytelling.
In 2025, two more Noosphere films were selected for screening at the Fulldome Festival Brno — further proof of the team’s growing international reputation.

Social Mission and Global Collaboration
Planetarium Noosphere is deeply committed to community outreach. One of its key programs offers free astronomy and science classes to schoolchildren in Dnipro. Students can explore interactive exhibits, learn from expert guides, and enjoy full-dome films — all at no cost. Since launching in December 2023, this initiative has welcomed nearly 20,000 children.
In 2023, Noosphere joined the International Planetarium Society, reinforcing its commitment to international collaboration and excellence in science communication.
In response to the challenges of war, the team developed a unique “space retreat” program for internally displaced people to help reduce psychological stress through cosmic immersion. As of July 2024, the program has reached over 12,800 participants and was presented at the IPS Conference in Berlin and Jena.
Planetarium Noosphere also represents Ukraine on the cultural stage. During the Dnipro Days in Cologne festival, it showcased a “Cosmic Dnipro” exhibit featuring VR experiences, a Ukrainian space-themed digital game, and full-dome films like Ukrainian Space and Beyond the Horizon — drawing international attention and appreciation. In recognition of these efforts, the Mayor of Dnipro awarded Planetarium Noosphere an official letter of gratitude in late 2024.
What’s Next: A Big Birthday and Bigger Plans
As Planetarium Noosphere approaches its 5-year anniversary since reopening, it’s already preparing to launch bold new projects, programs, and surprises. The milestone will not only mark a celebration but also kick off a new chapter filled with even more ambitious goals — and more incredible space adventures to come.
